Arlington, TX Just Ranked #22 in the Country. Here's What That Actually Means for Buyers.
Why is Arlington, TX one of the best places to live in the United States? Arlington ranked #22 on Livability.com's Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S. — making it the second-best city in North Texas and fifth-best in all of Texas — thanks to its affordability, entertainment options, strong job market, and central DFW location.
I've been telling buyers this for years: Arlington is genuinely one of the best-kept secrets in the DFW Metroplex. It has the energy of a major city, the affordability that's disappearing everywhere else, and a quality of life that's hard to find in markets this size.
Now there's a national ranking to back it up.
Arlington just landed at No. 22 on Livability.com's latest list of the Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S., ranking as the second-best place to live in North Texas and fifth-best in all of Texas. That's not a participation trophy — that list evaluates more than 2,000 U.S. cities across more than 100 data points. Arlington earned that number.
Here's what the ranking actually means — and why it matters if you're thinking about buying in this area.
What Livability.com Looked At (And Why Arlington Won)
Livability doesn't just count coffee shops and parks. The list analyzes more than 100 data points across eight essential categories, including economy and housing (with a priority on affordability), amenities and environment, safety, health, education, and transportation.
Arlington scored across the board. Livability cited the city's entertainment and recreation options, central location within the DFW-Arlington Metroplex, affordability, stable job market, and the University of Texas at Arlington as top reasons to move here. They also highlighted Arlington's role in the North Texas economy, pointing to advanced manufacturing, tourism, and healthcare services as top-performing sectors, along with the General Motors Arlington Assembly plant.
That's a city with real economic infrastructure — not just vibes.
The Entertainment Capital of Texas (No, Really)
Arlington is known as the "Entertainment Capital of Texas," and for good reason. The city is home to AT&T Stadium — where the Dallas Cowboys play and major concerts are held — Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, Six Flags Over Texas, and Hurricane Harbor.
But it's not just the big venues. In the heart of downtown Arlington, Levitt Pavilion hosts more than 50 free outdoor concerts every year — Texas country, Latin rhythms, indie, blues — with lawn chairs and picnics welcome. That's a community asset that residents often take for granted until they leave.
Outdoor recreation is always within reach too: Arlington has more than 4,700 acres of parkland and more than 50 miles of scenic trails for jogging, walking, or biking, plus boating and kayaking on Lake Arlington.
Affordability That's Actually Real
Here's the part I want every buyer to hear clearly: Arlington is affordable now. And that window doesn't stay open forever.
The city qualified for Livability's ranking in part because it met the criteria of a median home value under $500,000 — but what's notable is that Arlington delivers major-city amenities at a price point that most comparable metros have long since left behind.
The overall housing market has softened modestly from its 2022–2023 peaks — prices were down approximately 3–4% year-over-year as of early 2026 — which has expanded buyer leverage and brought some previously overheated neighborhoods back to more accessible levels.
For buyers, that combination — a nationally ranked city with softened prices and more negotiating room — is genuinely rare. It doesn't last.
What Arlington Looks Like Neighborhood by Neighborhood
The city covers a lot of ground, and different parts of Arlington have very different personalities.
Viridian is Arlington's premier master-planned community in the northeast part of the city — waterfront living, resort-style amenities, and an architectural mix that ranges from craftsman to contemporary. Median home prices in Viridian run around $515,000, reflecting the premium character of the community and strong buyer demand for that address.
South and Southwest Arlington offer some of the market's best value for established neighborhoods with easy access to both the entertainment district and major employment corridors.
Northwest Arlington tends toward more affordable price points — a good entry point for first-time buyers or those looking to maximize square footage.
The right neighborhood depends entirely on your priorities. That's a conversation worth having with someone who actually knows the market.
Why This Ranking Matters If You're Selling, Too
If you own a home in Arlington and you've been on the fence about selling, this is worth paying attention to.
National recognition drives relocation interest. When a city ranks this high in a widely cited livability study, it gets attention from people searching for their next home from across the country — and that includes buyers who are specifically looking at the DFW market for the first time.
That's additional buyer demand. And additional buyer demand is what creates competitive offers.

Thinking About Buying in Arlington?
The ranking is great. But a number on a list doesn't tell you which neighborhood fits your life, what homes are actually selling for right now, or how to position an offer in this market.
